Turning 65 in Montana? Medicare Guide

Turning 65 is a big milestone, especially here in Montana where many folks are still working, ranching, or enjoying retirement outdoors. Around this birthday, most people become eligible for Medicare.

Your first opportunity to enroll is called the Initial Enrollment Period. This window begins three months before your 65th birthday month and lasts for seven months total. During this time you can enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B.

Part A generally covers hospital services, while Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, and preventive services.

Many people also look at additional coverage to help with costs Medicare does not fully cover. These options may include Medicare Supplement plans, Medicare Advantage plans, or prescription drug coverage.

The most important thing to remember is that Medicare decisions do not have to be rushed. Taking time to understand how the program works can help you avoid mistakes and feel confident in your choices.
